Tell us a little about your business:
PH Coffee and the Public House exist to strengthen community by creating welcoming spaces where neighbors can gather, connect, and build relationships.
Located in the heart of Pendleton Heights, our mission is simple: Serve well. Support each other. Strengthen our community. We believe strong neighborhoods are built when people know one another, share experiences, and have places that encourage meaningful connection.
During the day, we operate as a neighborhood coffeehouse serving coffee, breakfast, lunch, and a comfortable space for work, meetings, and conversation. In the evenings, the Public House provides a relaxed gathering place where neighbors and visitors can enjoy drinks, conversation, and community-focused events.
Beyond food and beverages, our focus is on creating opportunities for people to come together. Throughout the year, we host free and low-cost events including story times, game nights, language exchanges, community meetings, neighborhood celebrations, and family-friendly activities. We regularly partner with local organizations, schools, artists, musicians, nonprofits, and small businesses to support initiatives that benefit the broader community.
We believe a local business can be more than a place to make a purchase—it can serve as a community hub. Whether someone is stopping in for a morning coffee, meeting friends after work, attending an event, or getting involved in neighborhood initiatives, we strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome.
As a locally owned business, we are committed to investing in our neighborhood through partnerships, volunteer efforts, sponsorships, and community engagement. Our goal is to help foster a stronger, safer, and more connected community while providing excellent hospitality and memorable experiences for every guest.
At the end of the day, our success is measured not only by what we serve, but by the relationships we help create and the sense of belonging we help build.
What's a recent success story or milestone you're proud of?
One recent milestone we're especially proud of is the growth of our Neighbor Nights program. Twice each month, we open our space for a free community gathering designed to bring neighbors together in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. We provide free food, create opportunities for conversation, and encourage people who may not otherwise meet to connect with one another.
What began as a simple effort to strengthen relationships has grown into a valued neighborhood tradition. Neighbor Nights regularly bring together longtime residents, new neighbors, families, local business owners, and community leaders around the same table. We've seen new friendships form, volunteer efforts emerge, and stronger connections develop among people who share a commitment to the neighborhood.
The program reflects our core mission of strengthening community through hospitality and connection. In a time when many people feel isolated or disconnected, Neighbor Nights have become a meaningful way to foster belonging and build relationships that extend beyond the event itself. Seeing neighbors show up for one another, share ideas, and invest in the future of the community has been one of our most rewarding accomplishments.
What do you love most about being part of this Chamber?
What we value most about being part of the Mid-America LGBT Chamber is the opportunity to connect with a diverse network of business owners, professionals, and community leaders who believe that strong communities are built through inclusion, respect, and meaningful relationships.
As a neighborhood-focused business, we appreciate the Chamber's commitment to creating opportunities for connection, education, and economic growth while fostering a more inclusive business community throughout the Kansas City region. The relationships we've built through Chamber events and programming have helped us expand our network, learn from other business leaders, and identify new ways to serve our community.
We are especially grateful to be part of an organization that brings together businesses and allies from many different backgrounds while promoting a culture of belonging and mutual support. The Chamber's focus on advocacy, inclusion, education, and economic opportunity aligns closely with our own mission of creating welcoming spaces where people can gather, connect, and strengthen community.
What would you like our Chamber members to know about your business which isn’t necessarily obvious?
Many people initially see us as a coffee shop or neighborhood pub, but what may not be obvious is that community building is at the center of everything we do.
Our goal has never been simply to serve food and drinks. We intentionally create opportunities for people to connect through free community events, neighborhood gatherings, family activities, local partnerships, and volunteer efforts. From hosting Neighbor Nights and community meetings to supporting local nonprofits, schools, artists, and small businesses, we view our spaces as community hubs rather than traditional hospitality businesses.
We believe that a stronger neighborhood creates a stronger city. Whether someone comes in for a cup of coffee, attends an event, meets a future collaborator, discovers a local organization, or simply feels welcomed and included, we consider that part of our mission. The relationships formed in our spaces are every bit as important to us as the products we serve.
At our core, we're in the people business. Coffee and drinks are simply the vehicle we use to bring people together.
