ABC EIC Awards 2024

Tell us about your business:

Founded in 2010, Centric has grown into one of the most recognized general contractors in Kansas City, and we’re active in our business, civic, and philanthropic communities. We serve a wide range of markets, including workplace, retail, healthcare, institutional, industrial, hospitality, multi-family, and single-family residential. From our home in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District, we’ve expanded to 180 associates and $230 million in revenue. We’re driven to make Kansas City a better place to live, work, and play by building our city and its stories from the ground up. We’ve built a team that focuses accountability, leverages technology, and fosters collaboration, and with our transition to employee-ownership we’re all in on our future. Kansas City is our home, our passion, and our muse, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t taking our talents on the road. We’ve built some of the most sought-after entertainment complexes and restaurants in Nevada, Georgia, Missouri, and Colorado - and we’re not stopping there. Our projects are about more than just concrete, steel, and wood. More than square footage and floor plans. Our projects are about technical innovation and complex problem solving. They are about pioneering possibilities and building something for the first time – ever. They are about saying yes when others said no. About driving social movement, advancement, and change – and we thrive most when we’re at the center of it all.

What's a recent success story or milestone you're proud of?

In late 2023, we successfully transitioned to a 100% employee-owned company through the implementation of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This significant milestone underscores our commitment to our workforce, their families, and our future growth in Kansas City and beyond.

What do you love most about being part of this Chamber?

The Mid-America LGBT Chamber allows us to build relationships with other companies and business owners across the region, as well as stay informed about new developments and projects. Because the Chamber serves the entire region, we meet people from all parts of the metro and gain valuable insight into our communities’ construction goals and needs.

What would you like our Chamber members to know about your business which isn’t necessarily obvious?

We are proud that Centric has played a significant role in the revitalization of Kansas City’s urban core. Throughout our 15-year history, Centric has intentionally focused on projects within our own community—where our employee-owners live, raise their families, and spend their time. It’s exciting to see the many projects we’ve built for clients along the streetcar line, up and down Troost Avenue, and on the Berkley Riverfront.
