Our August Workforce SynQ, hosted at Children’s Mercy, brought together Chamber members for a meaningful conversation overlooking a stunning view of downtown Kansas City. The session, led by Jay Bohanon, featured an engaging panel with Zach Rose-Heim, Jay Herron, and Sheri Johnson, who shared thoughtful insights and practical guidance for building stronger, more sustainable Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
Attendees walked away with actionable strategies, including how to build a strong business case for launching or sustaining an ERG, considerations when starting a new group, and advice for aspiring Executive Sponsors—or those seeking one. The panel also highlighted the unique opportunity ERG leadership provides for developing leadership skills outside of traditional roles, as well as how success and metrics may look different in corporate versus nonprofit settings.
From defining what “success” looks like to identifying which metrics truly matter (and which to avoid), the conversation provided ERG leaders and supporters with clarity and inspiration. The session closed with rapid-fire advice from each panelist, offering professional and personal wisdom to take back to the workplace.
Workforce SynQ continues to be a vital space for professionals to learn, exchange ideas, and strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across Kansas City.
